Mouthguards for Athletes

It's summer and we at Dr. Hutta Orthodontics would like to remind our athletes in treatment to take care of your mouth and appliances while participating in contact sports. The bottom line is that only by using a mouthguard can kids with and without braces avoid serious sports injuries. And don't forget to ask us for a mouthguard -- Dr. Hutta will happily provide a mouthguard for any of our patients! Have a fun summer!

Ortho Essentials Program

Start treatment this summer and become part of our new Ortho Essentials program! We know that good oral hygiene is more challenging during orthodontic treatment. That's why Dr. Hutta feels very strongly about being the only orthodontist in the Columbus area to offer the new Ortho Essentials program for our patients. The Ortho Essentials program is a 3-step oral hygiene program designed to boost oral health and hygiene practices in orthodontic patients. The day our patients get their braces on we will go over the importance of proper hygiene techniques. In order to help with proper hygiene our patients will receive a free Ortho Essentials kit which includes a Oral-B Triumph power toothbrush, Crest toothpaste, and rinse. At each visit we will rate your brushing to make sure you are maintaining proper oral hygiene. The purpose of this program is to work with you and your general dentist to give you a healthy, beautiful smile!

AAO Scholarship Contest

The AAO is having a "How Orthodontics Changed My Life" video contest where two winners will each be awarded a $2,500 scholarship. Postmark deadline for entering is July 15, 2010. Funds may be used toward the winners' post-high school educational expenses at a college, university, vocational or technical school. Tell your story on video, answering questions such as: What were you like before you had orthodontic treatment? How have you changed?·How proud are you of your new smile? ·When did you notice changes in yourself? What kinds of changes have you noticed?·What does your new smile mean to you? ·What would you say to others whose smiles make them self-conscious? The "How Orthodontics Changed My Life" video contest is open to students who are legal residents of the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada, who are 18 years of age or younger as of July 15, 2010 and who have had, or are having, orthodontic treatment by a member of the AAO. The contestant should be in the active retention phase of treatment or have completed active retention. Contest guidelines provide instructions to contestants on submitting their videos.Videos are to be submitted on DVDs or USB flash drives, which should mailed to: LindaGladden, Director of Communications or Marketing , American Association of Orthodontists, 401 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141. All video entries must be submitted by July 15, 2010. Each entrant must include a signed release form (see the contest guidelines) with his or her video. Videos submitted should be two minutes in length or less. Entries are limited to one per person. There is no fee to enter. The 10 finalists and two scholarship winners will be selected by AAO communications staff and a team of AAO members serving on the Association's Council on Communications.By August 15, 2010, the 10 finalist videos will be posted at the AAO Web site, Braces.org, and on the specialty Web site, AAOinfo.org. Mouthguards

April is National Facial Protection Month, but mouthguards are a good idea all year long. One in four parents say their child has had an injury during an organized sport resulting in a trip to the emergency room. Let's work together to protect your smile! Just by wearing a mouthguard you reduce the risk of knocking out teeth or breaking a jaw. Any time you are engaged in an activity where your face can come in contact with something hard--say another player, a ball, the pavement, or any hard object--it is a time that you should be wearing a mouthguard! Dr. Hutta believes so strongly in mouthguard wear that he provides them at no charge to his patients. Dental Health Month

February is Dental Health Month. Did you know that orthodontics can play an important role in your dental health? Crooked or crowded teeth can promote cavities or gum disease by making it more difficult to floss and clean all the tooth surfaces correctly. Braces can improve your dental health by correcting problems that may make it hard to bite or chew.
